Which Pokémon Scarlet and Violet director conceived Pokémon Pokopia?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet director Shigeru Ohmori conceived Pokémon Pokopia.

While working on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Ohmori considered new directions for the Pokémon franchise. He reflected on his earlier work as a map designer on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and imagined a game where fans could create Pokémon habitats of their own.

That idea became the foundation for Pokopia's focus on environmental restoration, construction, and Pokémon living spaces. Game Freak later worked with Omega Force, whose experience with sandbox games helped turn the concept into a full social simulation.

Ohmori's role is distinct from the game's broader development team. He served as the concept and senior director, while Omega Force director Takuto Edagawa served as chief director. This division is why Takuto Edagawa may also appear in Pokopia credits, but Shigeru Ohmori is the person identified with conceiving the game's original idea.
