Hoenn inspired Shigeru Ohmori's idea for player-created habitats in Pokémon Pokopia.
During development, Ohmori reflected on his earliest work in the Pokémon series as a map designer on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Those games take place in Hoenn, a region known for varied landscapes, routes, towns, and environmental identity.
That experience led him to consider how appealing it would be for players to create their own Pokémon habitats. Pokopia develops that idea into a full sandbox system in which players build areas, satisfy habitat requirements, and attract Pokémon by changing the environment.
The answer is Hoenn, not Kanto, even though Pokopia's story takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Kanto. The two regions therefore have different roles: Hoenn influenced the game's design concept, while Kanto is the narrative setting.
