Which Pokémon Pokopia developer conceived the idea of player-made Pokémon habitats?

The story behind the answer

Shigeru Ohmori conceived the idea of player-made Pokémon habitats in Pokémon Pokopia.

Ohmori, who directed Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, began thinking about the concept while considering new approaches for the Pokémon franchise. His earlier work as a map designer on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire helped shape the idea that players might enjoy cultivating and designing their own Pokémon environments.

That concept became the foundation for Pokopia’s slow-life structure. Rather than simply visiting prepared routes and towns, players restore damaged land and decide how habitats should develop. Buildings, gardens, scenery, and resident Pokémon all contribute to the player’s version of the world.

Ohmori’s role is sometimes confused with the game’s chief director, Takuto Edagawa, or with the series’ original creator, Satoshi Tajiri. Ohmori is specifically identified with conceiving the player-created-habitat idea. Edagawa led the game’s direction during development, while Tajiri was not the credited originator of Pokopia’s concept.
