Which Pokémon is the mascot of the franchise?

The story behind the answer

Pikachu is the mascot of the Pokémon franchise.

Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon first introduced in the original Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Green, released in Japan in 1996. Its bright yellow design, expressive face, and mouse-like appearance made it especially recognizable among the many creatures created for the series.

Pikachu became the franchise’s defining public character after it was chosen as Ash Ketchum’s partner in the Pokémon animated series. That role gave Pikachu a continuing presence in television, films, merchandise, trading cards, advertising, and later games. Its appeal to both boys and girls also helped Pokémon reach a broad audience.

Mew, Eevee, and Charizard are all highly popular Pokémon, but none is the overall franchise mascot. Eevee has become especially prominent in games and merchandise, while Charizard is a famous battle-focused species. Pikachu remains the central visual symbol of Pokémon worldwide.
