Which Pokémon is the final evolution of Charmander?

The story behind the answer

Which Pokémon is the final evolution of Charmander? Charizard is the final evolution of Charmander. The evolutionary line begins with Charmander, a Fire-type starter Pokémon, and continues through Charmeleon before reaching Charizard. In the main series games, Charmander evolves into Charmeleon at level 16, then Charmeleon evolves into Charizard at level 36.

Charizard is a Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon, giving it a different secondary typing from its earlier forms. Although its appearance is strongly inspired by a dragon, it is not normally a Dragon-type Pokémon. It was introduced in the first-generation games Pokémon Red and Green, released in Japan in 1996 and later localized as Pokémon Red and Blue.

A common mix-up is treating Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y as separate permanent evolutions. They are temporary Mega Evolutions introduced in Pokémon X and Y. Charizard also received a Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but its standard species remains the final evolution of Charmander.
