Which Pokémon is recognized as the franchise’s main mascot?

The story behind the answer

Pikachu is recognized as the main mascot of the Pokémon franchise.

Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in the first-generation games. It evolves from Pichu and can evolve into Raichu when exposed to a Thunder Stone. Its distinctive yellow body, pointed ears, red cheeks, and lightning-bolt tail made it immediately recognizable.

The animated series strengthened Pikachu’s status by making it Ash Ketchum’s partner. Unlike many Pokémon in the games, Ash’s Pikachu usually remained outside its Poké Ball, giving the character a prominent role in the show’s opening stories, merchandise, and promotional artwork.

Pikachu was not the only candidate considered for broad recognition, and characters such as Eevee and Charizard are also extremely popular. However, Pikachu is the official face most consistently associated with the franchise worldwide.
