Generation VI introduced 72 new Pokémon in Pokémon X and Y.
Generation VI began with Pokémon X and Y, released worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS on October 12, 2013. Its new Pokémon belonged to the Kalos region, which drew visual inspiration from France and surrounding European culture.
The generation ran from National Pokédex number 650, Chespin, through number 721, Volcanion. The range contains 72 species, including starter Pokémon such as Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, as well as legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal.
Generation VI also introduced the Fairy type, the first new type added since Pokémon Gold and Silver. It marked a major graphical change as the main series moved from primarily two-dimensional sprites to three-dimensional polygonal models.
