Hoothoot is the Pokémon in Pokémon Pokopia that enjoys darkness as a habitat condition.
Pokopia requires players to create environments suited to different Pokémon. These habitats can involve vegetation, furniture, terrain features, or specific conditions, so attracting a Pokémon is not simply a matter of finding it in the wild.
Hoothoot is given as a clear example of this system: it prefers darkness. Players therefore need to consider the time of day or the lighting of an area when developing habitats for particular Pokémon.
Hoothoot is sometimes confused with Noctowl because Noctowl is its evolution and also has an association with nighttime. However, the Pokémon specifically identified in the game’s habitat example is Hoothoot. The detail illustrates how Pokopia turns Pokémon knowledge into practical world-building requirements.
