Tangrowth gives the player guidance in Pokémon Pokopia under the name Professor Tangrowth. This unusual character studies the abandoned environment and works with Ditto to investigate why humans and Pokémon left the region.
Tangrowth is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV, and its vine-covered appearance suits the game’s themes of overgrown ruins and ecological recovery. In Pokopia, the character is not simply encountered as a wild Pokémon or battle opponent. Professor Tangrowth functions as a researcher and story guide.
The partnership begins after Ditto enters the damaged world and discovers that Pokémon habitats are no longer suitable for life. Together, Ditto and Professor Tangrowth help restore those habitats and learn more about the history of the setting. Their work frames the game as a reconstruction project rather than a conventional quest to defeat an antagonist.
Professor Tangrowth should not be confused with Professor Oak, the famous human researcher from the original Kanto games. Tangrowth is a Pokémon taking on a professor-like role in Pokopia’s post-apocalyptic story.
