Game Freak co-developed Pokémon Pokopia with Omega Force, bringing the Pokémon series’ creators into a sandbox-focused collaboration.
Game Freak is the studio behind the main Pokémon video games, but the Pokopia project required substantial experience with open-ended building and crafting systems. The studio therefore partnered with Omega Force, a Koei Tecmo development team known for projects including Dragon Quest Builders 2.
The collaboration combined Game Freak’s knowledge of Pokémon characters and worlds with Omega Force’s experience in construction-oriented gameplay. Pokémon Pokopia was ultimately co-developed by Game Freak and Omega Force, while Nintendo and The Pokémon Company handled publishing roles in different markets.
A common mix-up is to name Koei Tecmo as the sole developer. Koei Tecmo is the parent company of Omega Force; the specific development studio credited alongside Game Freak is Omega Force.
