Professor Tangrowth acts as the professor and guide in Pokémon Pokopia.

After Ditto begins exploring the abandoned world, it meets Tangrowth, a Pokémon that has taken on the role of a researcher. Known as Professor Tangrowth, this character studies the environment and helps investigate what happened to the humans and Pokémon who once lived there.

Professor Tangrowth also gives Ditto the practical mission of restoring habitats. This makes the character both a story guide and an explanation for the game’s central activities, including gathering materials, changing terrain, and attracting Pokémon to revitalized areas.

The name can be confused with familiar human professors from earlier Pokémon games, such as Professor Oak. Pokopia deliberately replaces the usual human research professor with a Pokémon character, making Professor Tangrowth a distinctive part of its setting.
