Which player won the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP in 2016? Patrick Kane won it.

Kane received the award at the 2016 NHL Awards after a remarkable 2015–16 season with the Chicago Blackhawks. He led the NHL with 106 points, produced 46 goals and 60 assists, and also won the Art Ross Trophy as the league’s leading scorer.

The victory made Kane the first American-born player to win the Hart Memorial Trophy. He was also the first American-born player to win the Art Ross Trophy. Sidney Crosby and Jamie Benn were the other finalists, while Alex Ovechkin finished outside the top three in voting.

The award is voted on by members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and recognizes the player judged most valuable to his team during the regular season. It is separate from the Conn Smythe Trophy, which honors the most valuable player during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
