Which planet in our Solar System has the most prominent ring system?

The story behind the answer

Saturn has the most prominent ring system in our Solar System.

The rings are made mainly of countless particles of water ice, along with dust and rocky material. They range from tiny grains to chunks several meters across. Although Saturn is not the only ringed planet, its rings are brighter, broader, and easier to observe from Earth than those of Jupiter, Uranus, or Neptune.

Saturn’s main rings are labeled with letters, including the A, B, and C rings. The Cassini Division is a prominent gap between the A and B rings, created by orbital effects and the gravitational influence of Saturn’s moons. The rings are extremely thin compared with their enormous diameter.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second-largest planet after Jupiter. It is a gas giant composed primarily of hydrogen and helium. The Cassini spacecraft studied Saturn, its rings, and its moons from 2004 until its mission ended in 2017.
