The Pixar short about a sheep who loses his wool and learns to bounce back is “Boundin’.”
Released in 2003, “Boundin’” follows a proud lamb whose elegant dancing makes him popular with the other animals. After shearers remove his wool, he becomes embarrassed and loses his confidence when the animals mock his changed appearance.
A jackalope then teaches him the value of “bounding”—getting back up after a fall rather than relying on looks or constant success. The lamb eventually regains his joy, and when his wool grows back only to be sheared again, he is no longer emotionally defeated.
Bud Luckey wrote, directed, narrated, composed, and performed the music for the short. It played before “The Incredibles,” earned an Annie Award, and was nominated for the 2004 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It is sometimes remembered as a simple sheep story, but its central idea is resilience.
