In Pixar’s short “Twenty Something,” the 20-something character has three childhood selves.
The character is Gia, who has just turned 21 and feels unprepared for adult life. Her anxieties are visualized as three younger versions of herself stacked inside a trench coat: a one-year-old, a 10-year-old, and a 16-year-old. Together, they represent different impulses and stages of Gia’s personality.
The short was written and directed by Aphton Corbin and released on Disney+ on September 10, 2021. It was the ninth film in Pixar’s SparkShorts series and was made in a distinctive 2D style. A common mix-up is counting Gia herself along with the three younger selves; the question asks for the childhood versions, not the complete number of figures in the story. By the ending, the three younger Gias reconcile and reform into the single 21-year-old Gia.
