Pixar's Cars features “Life Is a Highway” in its end credits.
The version used in the film is performed by the country-rock group Rascal Flatts. It plays over the credits and became one of the best-known musical associations with the first Cars movie. The song was originally recorded by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane and released in 1991.
The choice fits Cars because the film centers on highways, road travel, and the historic Route 66. Lightning McQueen's journey from a selfish racer to a more loyal friend is also reflected in the song's energetic road-trip mood.
Cars 2 and Cars 3 have different soundtracks and should not be substituted. Cars 2 includes songs such as “Collision of Worlds,” performed by Brad Paisley and Robbie Williams, while Cars 3 includes a soundtrack with music by Randy Newman and others.
