Which Pixar Cars character is known simply as Mater?

The Pixar Cars character known simply as Mater is named Tow Mater.

Mater is a rusty tow truck who lives in Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen’s closest friend. His name is a pun on “tomato,” reflecting the series’ playful use of automotive language and wordplay. He is voiced by Larry the Cable Guy in the feature films.

Although Mater is introduced as comic relief, the films also show his loyalty, courage, and practical knowledge. In Cars 2, he becomes involved in an international spy adventure after being mistaken for a secret agent. His unusual behavior is central to the comedy, but his friendship with McQueen remains the emotional link between the films.

The character is officially called Tow Mater, but many viewers refer to him only as Mater. “Tow Mater” is the canonical character name, not a separate friend or vehicle model.
