In Pixar's Cars, the former race car who serves as Radiator Springs' doctor is Doc Hudson.
Doc is introduced as the town's respected physician and judge, but Lightning McQueen gradually discovers that he once had a remarkable racing career. Doc was the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, a three-time Piston Cup champion before a crash ended his career and left him feeling forgotten by the racing world.
The character was voiced by Paul Newman, whose own reputation as a race driver gave the role an especially fitting connection to motorsport. Doc initially resists Lightning's interest in racing, because he sees the younger car's arrogance as a reminder of the attitudes that once hurt him.
Doc Hudson is based on the real Hudson Hornet, a car strongly associated with early stock-car racing. The film does not make him a human doctor; he is an automobile character whose medical role is part of the film's anthropomorphic world.
