Which pirate captain was hanged at Gallows Point in Jamaica in 1721?

The story behind the answer

Charles Vane was hanged at Gallows Point in Jamaica in 1721.

Vane was an English pirate active in the Bahamas and the Caribbean during the early eighteenth century. He became known for refusing a royal pardon offered to pirates in 1718, choosing to continue attacking ships instead of accepting the authorities’ terms.

His career changed after he was removed from command by his own crew, partly because he repeatedly avoided attacking a powerful French warship. Vane later returned to piracy, but a hurricane wrecked his vessel near Honduras in 1719. He survived the wreck and lived under an assumed identity for a time.

A former associate recognized him and arranged his arrest. Vane was brought to Jamaica, tried for piracy, and executed at Gallows Point near Port Royal on 29 March 1721. He is sometimes mixed up with Calico Jack, who also operated in the Caribbean, but Rackham was captured and executed in Jamaica in 1720.
