Which pirate captain led the English attack that sacked Panama City in 1671?

The story behind the answer

Henry Morgan led the English buccaneer attack that sacked Panama City in 1671.

Morgan gathered a large force of buccaneers in the Caribbean and crossed the Isthmus of Panama. On 28 January 1671, his men defeated Spanish defenders and entered the city, which was then one of Spain’s most important settlements on the Pacific coast.

The attack made Morgan famous in England, although Spanish accounts and later writers disputed details of the fighting and the city’s destruction. The original Panama City was abandoned after the raid and later replaced by the settlement now called Panamá Viejo’s successor, Casco Viejo.
