Which performer sings “Accidentally in Love” in the Shrek 2 soundtrack?

Counting Crows perform “Accidentally in Love” on the Shrek 2 soundtrack.

The song was written and recorded by the American rock band Counting Crows for Shrek 2. It appears prominently in the film’s early sequence, accompanying Shrek and Fiona’s honeymoon and helping establish the upbeat tone of the sequel.

“Accidentally in Love” was released as a single in 2004 and became closely associated with the film. It received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, although it did not win. The recording also appeared on the soundtrack album alongside songs by artists such as Jennifer Saunders and Eddie Murphy.

A frequent confusion is with “All Star,” the Smash Mouth song strongly linked with the first Shrek film. Another mix-up involves “Holding Out for a Hero,” performed by Jennifer Saunders as the Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2.
