Which Peaky Blinders series averaged 3.35 million UK viewers?

The story behind the answer

Series 4 of Peaky Blinders averaged 3.35 million UK viewers.

The six-episode fourth series was broadcast on BBC Two from 15 November to 20 December 2017. Its average audience was calculated from the individual episode figures, which ranged from 3.16 million to 3.56 million viewers. The finale was the series’ highest-rated episode in the consolidated figures.

Series 4 represented a major ratings increase over the earlier runs. Series 1 and Series 3 each averaged about 2.38 million viewers, while Series 2 averaged 2.18 million. The fourth series therefore became the show’s most-watched run at that point and BBC Two’s biggest drama series of 2017.

It is easy to confuse this figure with the later BBC One audiences. Series 5 and Series 6 averaged substantially more viewers after the programme moved channels, but the 3.35-million figure specifically belongs to Series 4.
