Which Patti Smith debut album was released in 1975?

The story behind the answer

Patti Smith’s debut album released in 1975 was *Horses*.

Released on November 10, 1975, *Horses* introduced Smith as a recording artist after she had already become a notable figure in New York’s emerging punk and poetry scenes. She recorded it at Electric Lady Studios with her regular band, including guitarist Lenny Kaye, drummer Jay Dee Daugherty, bassist Ivan Král and pianist Richard Sohl.

Former Velvet Underground member John Cale produced the album. Its blend of direct rock arrangements, poetic lyrics, improvisation and avant-garde influences helped establish the artistic vocabulary of early punk. The cover photograph was taken by Robert Mapplethorpe.

The distractors are later Smith albums: *Radio Ethiopia* followed in 1976, *Easter* in 1978 and *Wave* in 1979. *Horses* reached No. 47 on the US Billboard 200 and is widely regarded as a landmark debut.
