Alphabet, Google's parent company, first exceeded a US$1 trillion market capitalization in January 2020.
Alphabet passed the milestone during trading on January 16, 2020. Its valuation was dominated by Google Search and advertising, with additional businesses including YouTube, Google Cloud, and hardware products.
Alphabet was created in 2015 during a corporate reorganization that made Google its largest subsidiary. Larry Page became Alphabet's first chief executive, while Sundar Pichai led Google and later became Alphabet's CEO.
Alphabet followed Apple and Amazon into the trillion-dollar group. Market capitalization measures the value investors assign to all outstanding shares; it should not be confused with Google's annual advertising revenue or Alphabet's total assets.
