The standard cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love has been compared with Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s painting The Swing.
Rodrigo’s cover shows her upside down on a swing against a soft pink-and-blue sky. She wears a pink babydoll dress, white crew socks, and Mary Jane shoes. The visual resemblance to Fragonard’s Rococo painting comes from the swing, the pink clothing, and the romantic, theatrical composition.
The comparison is to the painting’s title, The Swing, rather than to its artist. Fragonard created the original work in the 18th century, and it became one of the best-known examples of Rococo art.
