Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” references the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.”
The lyric reference appears in “Drop Dead,” the opening song and lead single from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The song mentions knowing the words to “Just Like Heaven,” linking Rodrigo’s new material to an influential 1980s alternative-rock band.
The reference is especially notable because Robert Smith, the Cure’s singer and songwriter, appears elsewhere on the album. He contributes vocals and instruments to “What’s Wrong with Me.”
This connection does not mean “Drop Dead” is a cover of “Just Like Heaven.” It is an original Rodrigo song that uses the earlier title as a lyrical reference.
