Which Oxford college employed C.S. Lewis from 1925 to 1954?
Answer
Magdalen College
Answer
Magdalen College
Magdalen College employed C.S. Lewis from 1925 to 1954.
Lewis became a Fellow and tutor in English at Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1925. He remained there for nearly three decades, teaching students and writing many of the works that established his reputation as a Christian author and literary scholar.
His Oxford years included both academic and literary activity. He taught English literature, participated in the Inklings, and lived in rooms at Magdalen for much of his tenure. In 1954 he left Oxford for Cambridge University, where he became the first holder of the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature. Magdalen is therefore distinct from Cambridge’s Magdalene College, despite the similar names.
