Which Oxford college employed C.S. Lewis as a fellow and tutor for most of his career?

The story behind the answer

Magdalen College employed C.S. Lewis as a fellow and tutor for most of his Oxford career.

Lewis became a fellow and tutor in English at Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1925. He remained there until 1954, teaching students and developing the literary and theological works that made him internationally famous. The college’s medieval buildings, gardens, and riverside surroundings are closely associated with his Oxford years.

At Magdalen, Lewis also took part in conversations with other writers and scholars. His friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien was especially important, and both men were members of the informal literary group known as the Inklings.

Magdalen is sometimes confused with Oxford colleges linked to other famous writers. Lewis’s later Cambridge appointment was at Magdalene College, Cambridge, a different institution whose name is spelled with an extra “e.” His long Oxford fellowship, however, was at Magdalen College.
