Which Oxford college did J.R.R. Tolkien join as a fellow in 1925?

J.R.R. Tolkien joined Pembroke College, Oxford, as a fellow in 1925.

In 1925, Tolkien became Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford and a fellow of Pembroke College. He remained connected with Pembroke until 1945. During this period he wrote much of The Hobbit and began developing The Lord of the Rings, making the college an important setting in the history of his creative career.

Pembroke College should not be confused with Exeter College, where Tolkien studied as an undergraduate, or Merton College, where he later became Professor of English Language and Literature. The three colleges mark different stages of his Oxford life: student, early Oxford fellow and professor, and later senior academic appointment.
