Which Oxford college appointed C.S. Lewis as a fellow in 1925?

The story behind the answer

Magdalen College appointed C.S. Lewis as a fellow in 1925.

Lewis became a Fellow and Tutor in English at Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1925. He remained there for nearly three decades, teaching medieval and Renaissance literature and developing the academic reputation that accompanied his literary career.

Magdalen was central to Lewis’s Oxford life. He walked along Addison’s Walk near the college, participated in intellectual discussions, and formed friendships with writers including J.R.R. Tolkien. The two men belonged to the literary group known as the Inklings.

Lewis did not hold his later Cambridge chair at Magdalen. In 1954 he became the first professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, where he was associated with Magdalene College, a different institution from Oxford’s Magdalen College.
