Which Ottoman sultan was known as "the Magnificent" in the West?

The story behind the answer

Which Ottoman sultan was known as “the Magnificent” in the West? Suleiman I was the ruler given that famous epithet.

Suleiman I reigned from 1520 to 1566 as the Ottoman Empire’s tenth sultan. His campaigns captured Belgrade in 1521, Rhodes in 1522, and much of Hungary after the Battle of Mohács in 1526. Ottoman power also expanded in Iraq, North Africa, and the Mediterranean during his reign.

His rule is often associated with the empire’s political, military, economic, and cultural high point. Suleiman sponsored major architectural projects, including the Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul, designed by the celebrated architect Mimar Sinan. He also supported literature and wrote poetry under the pen name Muhibbi.

Western writers called him “the Magnificent,” while Ottoman subjects more commonly knew him as Kanuni, meaning “the Lawgiver,” because of his legal and administrative reforms. He should not be confused with Süleyman Çelebi or Suleiman II; Suleiman I was the sultan of the sixteenth-century Ottoman zenith.
