Rachel Elnaugh was the original Dragon on the UK show Dragon’s Den known for founding Red Letter Days.
Red Letter Days was an experience-gift company established by Elnaugh in 1989. Instead of selling ordinary products, it offered customers activities and memorable events as presents. The company became a notable British example of experience-led retail.
When Dragon’s Den launched in 2005, Elnaugh joined its first panel of investors. Her business story gave viewers a clear example of how a founder could build a recognisable consumer brand and later bring commercial experience to an investment programme.
The other original Dragons had different entrepreneurial backgrounds. Peter Jones developed businesses in areas including technology and retail, Simon Woodroffe founded the Yo! brand, and Doug Richard was associated with technology entrepreneurship and investment.
