Doug Richard left the UK version of Dragon's Den after its first series.
Richard was one of the original Dragons when the programme launched in 2005. The American entrepreneur and technology investor became known for questioning entrepreneurs about their business models, valuations and routes to growth.
He departed after the first series and was replaced on the regular panel by other investors in later series. Peter Jones, by contrast, remained the only original Dragon to appear throughout the UK programme's run, which is why the two facts are often mixed up.
Richard later became associated with entrepreneurship education and startup support. His short tenure is an important part of the show's early history: the panel seen in the launch series was not the permanent lineup, and the programme began changing Dragons almost immediately.
