Which original Dragon left the British television programme Dragons' Den in 2014?

The story behind the answer

Duncan Bannatyne left the British television programme Dragons' Den in 2014.

Bannatyne was one of the five original Dragons when the BBC series began in 2005. He remained on the programme for many series before announcing his departure in 2014. His exit ended one of the longest-running original panel appearances, although Peter Jones continued from the launch series.

The Scottish entrepreneur built a business empire that included care homes, health clubs and hotels. He also became known publicly through his television work and philanthropic activities. His direct questioning often focused on whether a business could scale and whether the founder understood the numbers.

Bannatyne's departure is not the same as the end of the original panel: the other original Dragons had already left at different points. Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe departed earlier, while Rachel Elnaugh was replaced after the first series. Peter Jones remained the continuous original Dragon.
