Which organization manages the Australian Open?
Answer
Tennis Australia
Answer
Tennis Australia
Tennis Australia manages the Australian Open.
Tennis Australia is the national governing body for tennis in Australia and delivers the country’s premier tournament at Melbourne Park. Its responsibilities extend beyond the fortnight in Melbourne: the organization supports clubs, coaches, participation programs and Australia’s international tennis representation.
The body has historical roots in the Lawn Tennis Association of Australasia, formed in 1904. It was renamed the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia in 1926 and began trading as Tennis Australia in 1986; the name later became the organization’s formal title. The Australian Open itself was first staged in 1905.
The International Tennis Federation is involved in Grand Slam governance and support, but it does not manage the Australian Open. Likewise, the ATP governs the men’s professional tour rather than operating this Grand Slam. Tennis Australia also organizes other major events, including Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup activities in Australia.
