Answer
United Nations
The United Nations has its headquarters in New York City and was founded in 1945.
The United Nations, commonly abbreviated as the UN, was established after the Second World War to help maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among countries and encourage cooperation. Its Charter was signed in San Francisco on 26 June 1945 and came into force on 24 October 1945.
The UN’s headquarters complex stands beside the East River in Manhattan. The organisation also maintains major offices in Geneva, Vienna and Nairobi. Its principal organs include the General Assembly, Security Council, International Court of Justice, Secretariat, Economic and Social Council and Trusteeship Council.
The UN began with 51 member states. It has since expanded to 193 member states, giving nearly every internationally recognised country a place in the General Assembly. The World Bank and World Health Organization are separate international organisations, although both cooperate with the UN system and are commonly mentioned alongside it.
