Which organization does Shay Cormac join in Assassin's Creed Rogue?

The story behind the answer

Shay Cormac joins the Templars in Assassin's Creed Rogue.

Rogue, released in 2014, begins with Shay as an Assassin operating in the North Atlantic during the eighteenth century. After a devastating event connected to an Assassin mission, Shay rejects the Brotherhood and eventually joins the Templar Order. The game then presents the conflict largely from the Templars' perspective.

Shay hunts former allies across locations including the North Atlantic, the River Valley, and New York. His story links several earlier games: Haytham Kenway appears, and Achilles Davenport is shown before the events of Assassin's Creed III. Rogue therefore acts as a bridge between the Kenway-era narratives and the broader series chronology.

The Order of the Ancients belongs primarily to the earlier historical setting of Assassin's Creed Origins, while the Rooks are a gang associated with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Neither is Shay's organization. The central reversal in Rogue is Shay's move from Assassin to Templar.
