Which organization conducts the U.S. Open golf championship?
Answer
United States Golf Association
Answer
United States Golf Association
The United States Golf Association conducts the U.S. Open golf championship.
The USGA is the governing body that stages the championship, which began in 1895. The U.S. Open is one of men’s golf’s four major championships and is traditionally played in June on challenging courses in the United States.
The PGA Tour is a common mix-up because the U.S. Open appears on its schedule and awards PGA Tour membership benefits. However, the tour is not the championship’s organizing authority. Augusta National hosts the Masters, while The R&A organizes The Open Championship, golf’s major played chiefly in Britain.
The USGA also conducts the U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Women’s Amateur, and other national championships. Since 1898, the U.S. Open has generally used 72-hole stroke play, with the lowest aggregate score winning. Its first champion was Horace Rawlins, who won the 1895 event at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island.
