Which online platform did J.K. Rowling launch in 2011 as an interactive home for Harry Potter fans?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling launched Pottermore in 2011 as an interactive online home for Harry Potter fans.

Pottermore was announced in June 2011 and opened to the public in April 2012 after an earlier registration period. The website combined digital versions of the books with interactive experiences, quizzes, illustrations, and new writing by Rowling about the wizarding world.

The platform was designed to offer more than a standard author website. Users could be sorted into Hogwarts houses, choose a wand, and move through locations and moments connected with the novels. It also became an official digital retailer for the Harry Potter e-books and audiobooks.

In 2019, Pottermore Publishing was renamed Wizarding World Digital, and the main website was later rebranded as WizardingWorld.com. This history causes some confusion: Pottermore is the correct name for the platform launched in 2011, while Wizarding World is the later brand used for the broader franchise.
