J.K. Rowling launched Pottermore in 2011 for the Harry Potter fandom.
Pottermore was introduced as an interactive website combining Harry Potter stories with new writing by Rowling, quizzes, illustrations, and features connected to the books. It also offered an interactive way for users to be sorted into Hogwarts houses and receive a wand.
The site opened to the public in April 2012 after an earlier period of limited access. Rowling used it to publish additional background information about the wizarding world, including details that were not included in the original novels.
Pottermore later expanded beyond its original format and was relaunched as WizardingWorld.com in 2019. The newer site covers the wider Wizarding World brand, including Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, and related official material. The earlier name remains associated with Rowling’s first major digital platform for fans.
