J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels concluded in 2007 with the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Bloomsbury released the final novel in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2007. The publication was a major international event, with midnight release celebrations and large numbers of readers seeking copies immediately after the embargo ended.
The final book completed the seven-novel story that had begun with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997. Its plot follows Harry, Ron, and Hermione outside Hogwarts for much of the story as they search for Horcruxes and prepare for the final confrontation with Voldemort.
The film series did not finish in the same year. The cinematic adaptation of the final novel was split into two parts, released in 2010 and 2011. This distinction explains why some people remember 2011 as the franchise’s ending even though the original novel sequence ended in 2007.
