Quidditch is the fictional flying-broomstick sport in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels.
Players compete on broomsticks while trying to score through three opposing hoops. A team has seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. The Chasers handle the Quaffle, while Beaters use bats to manage the dangerous Bludgers.
The Seeker’s special objective is to catch the Golden Snitch. Catching it usually gives the team 150 points and ends the match, although the team with the most points wins. Harry becomes Gryffindor’s Seeker at Hogwarts.
Quidditch is distinct from other wizarding games in the series. Gobstones is a magical marble game, and wizard chess is a chess-like board game. Rowling’s sport became so recognizable that real-world non-magical adaptations later adopted the name and modified the rules.
