The Omega Seamaster is the watch collection named for the Greek god of the sea and launched in 1948.
Omega introduced the Seamaster in 1948 to mark the company’s centenary. Early models were civilian watches influenced by waterproof timepieces developed for military use during the Second World War. Their name emphasized water resistance and maritime reliability rather than identifying a single diving model.
The Seamaster family later expanded into specialized dive watches, including the Seamaster 300 and the modern Diver 300M. The collection is sometimes confused with the Speedmaster because both are major Omega lines, but their original purposes differed: the Seamaster emphasized water resistance, while the Speedmaster became associated with chronograph timing and space exploration.
