Which ocean liner was the first to use a swimming pool aboard ship?
Answer
RMS Adriatic
Answer
RMS Adriatic
RMS Adriatic was the first ocean liner to feature a swimming pool aboard ship.
The White Star Line vessel entered service in 1907 and was notable for introducing several amenities intended to make long voyages more comfortable. Its onboard swimming pool was among the earliest examples of a recreational facility that later became standard on luxury liners and cruise ships.
Adriatic was also known for Turkish baths, a gymnasium, and spacious public rooms. These features reflected a shift in passenger travel: liners were increasingly designed not only to transport people quickly, but also to provide an elaborate hotel-like experience.
The ship is sometimes confused with Olympic or Titanic because those vessels also offered extensive leisure facilities. However, Adriatic’s pool predates the pools associated with the Olympic-class ships. It remained in service until 1934 and was scrapped the following year.
