Which ocean does the Nile River flow into?
Answer
Mediterranean Sea
Answer
Mediterranean Sea
The Nile River flows north into the Mediterranean Sea.
The river reaches the Mediterranean through the Nile Delta in northern Egypt. There, its channel divides into distributaries and spreads across a broad, fertile plain before entering the sea.
The Nile is traditionally described as the world’s longest river, although modern measurements and competing definitions have led to debate involving the Amazon. Its two major tributaries are the White Nile, whose headwaters are in the Great Lakes region of Africa, and the Blue Nile, which rises in Ethiopia.
The Blue Nile carries much of the sediment and seasonal water that historically supported Egyptian agriculture. Ancient Egyptian civilization developed along the river because its floodplain provided water, transport, and fertile soil in an otherwise arid region. The Aswan High Dam, completed in 1970, greatly changed the river’s flooding and sediment patterns.
