Which ocean contains the Bermuda Triangle?

The story behind the answer

The ocean containing the Bermuda Triangle is the Atlantic Ocean.

The Bermuda Triangle is a loosely defined region in the North Atlantic, roughly associated with Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Because its boundaries vary between accounts, it is not an officially recognized geographic region with one fixed area or precisely agreed vertices.

The legend became widely popular in the mid-20th century through newspaper and magazine stories about missing ships and aircraft. Flight 19, a group of five U.S. Navy aircraft lost during a training flight in December 1945, became one of the best-known cases linked to the story. Earlier accounts, however, often involved ordinary storms, navigation mistakes or incomplete records.

The Atlantic location also explains several natural hazards. The region is crossed by the Gulf Stream and can experience powerful tropical cyclones, squalls and rapidly changing weather. Investigations by government and scientific organizations have found no evidence that the area has an unusual rate of disappearances. The Pacific’s “Devil’s Sea” is a separate legend.
