Which numbered theatrical film in the Ice Age series is Ice Age: Continental Drift?

The story behind the answer

Ice Age: Continental Drift is the fourth theatrical film in the Ice Age series.

Released in 2012, it follows Manny, Sid, and Diego after continental movement separates them from Ellie and Peaches. The trio becomes stranded on drifting ice and encounters a crew of pirates led by Captain Gutt.

The film is the first franchise entry to use 3D computer animation as a major theatrical presentation format. It also introduces several new supporting characters, including the saber-toothed cat Shira and the young mammoth Peaches in a more prominent teenage role.

The numbering can be confusing because the franchise also includes short films and the Disney+ spin-off The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. Continental Drift remains the fourth main theatrical feature, following Dawn of the Dinosaurs and preceding Collision Course.
