Which Norwegian won the first Olympic ski jumping gold medal in 1924?
Answer
Jacob Tullin Thams
Answer
Jacob Tullin Thams
Jacob Tullin Thams won the first Olympic ski jumping gold medal in 1924.
Thams triumphed in the ski jumping event at the inaugural Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France. His victory came on the large hill, the only Olympic ski-jumping competition at those Games. He represented Norway, which dominated the early Winter Olympics in Nordic disciplines.
Thams later won a silver medal in the 1928 Olympic sailing competition, making him one of the rare athletes to win Olympic medals in two different sports. In ski jumping, he was also a world champion and a major figure in the development of the Kongsberger technique.
This question concerns the first Olympic ski-jumping gold medal, not the first Olympic medal in skiing overall. Cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping were all part of the 1924 Winter Olympic program.
