Which Norwegian exchange traces its origins to a bourse founded in Christiania in 1819?
Answer
Oslo Stock Exchange
Answer
Oslo Stock Exchange
The Oslo Stock Exchange traces its origins to a bourse founded in Christiania, now Oslo, in 1819.
Christiania’s exchange was established to organize trading in securities and commodities in Norway’s growing commercial capital. The city was renamed Oslo in 1925, while the market gradually developed into the country’s central securities exchange.
The exchange is known in Norwegian as Oslo Børs. It has listed shares, bonds, and other financial products, with particular historical importance for shipping, energy, and seafood companies. Its benchmark index is the OBX, which represents a selection of highly traded Oslo-listed shares.
Oslo Børs became part of Euronext in 2019. That ownership change did not erase its Norwegian identity or historical roots. The exchange’s 1819 origin also makes it one of the older organized securities markets in Europe.
