Which North American flag has a central white cross?

The story behind the answer

The North American flag with a central white cross is the flag of the Dominican Republic.

Its white cross divides the flag into four rectangles: blue in the upper hoist and lower fly quarters, and red in the upper fly and lower hoist quarters. The national coat of arms sits at the intersection of the cross on the state flag. The civil version uses the same quartered design without the coat of arms.

The flag was designed by Juan Pablo Duarte, a founder of the Dominican independence movement, and was first raised in February 1844 during the struggle to end Haitian rule over the eastern part of Hispaniola. The white cross was associated with the Christian ideals of La Trinitaria, the revolutionary society that led the independence movement.

The colors carry symbolic meanings: blue is linked with liberty or divine protection, red with the blood shed by patriots, and white with salvation, peace, or unity. Panama also uses red, white, and blue, but its flag has stars and colored quarters rather than one large central cross.
